Places To Visit In Chennai - "Seaweed-brain"

We all know that if a tourist to Chennai doesn't visit its beaches, he has visited the city in vain.

Chennai is home to the Marina beach, which is the longest beach in Asia and the second longest urban beach in the world. With a length of 13 kilometers, it is surely one of the key attractions of Chennai.

The beach hosts a plethora of of interesting activities like horse-riding, balloon-shooting, free style gymnastics etc. It is also filled with soothsayers who claim to know everything about you and your future and delicious food stalls that serve piping hot Indian road-side delicacies.

But do the locals treat this beach with the awe and admiration it deserves? I mean, it IS one of the main reasons why Chennai is big on the tourist arena. The beach not only attracts the tourists but is also a rich history and is big on the cultural side. Yet, we can still see people carelessly discarding toxic waste on the sand and ocean that not only look unpleasant to the eye but are also harmful to the environment and the ecosystem in general.

Of course, there are people who organise cleaning camps and other such events to raise awareness about the  damage being done to this wonderful place but the question of whether the people are going wake up and see the damage caused or wake up to an even more polluted Marina is a question that is yet to be answered.
